Great Beat for Climbing…
I know I’ve mentioned my “man cave” (cycling trainer/tv/dvd) set up in the garage. It’s my escape to pedal… especially when the weather is really crappy or I just feel like some tough simulated climbing. Anyway, I have the Global Ride DVD’s that are a good climbing exercise… and I know them so well I decided to try some different music on my i-phone. I remember commenting to Ron of the Cozy Beehive in the past about some music he posted on his blog. It was that engineered… synthesizer kind of music. Well, I mentioned I just didn’t prefer it.
I must now retract that statement/feeling. A friend at work introduced me to Ulrich Schnauss. It’s exactly the kind of music I just mentioned.
And so far, I’ve found a couple of tracks I’ve really enjoyed paring with mashing pedals on the trainer. Here’s the 7 minute track I used along with a climbing DVD:
It’s really strong and steady and builds as you get going. There’s a perfect beat for a really tough simulated climb. By tough… I mean the big ring up front and gearing in the back from 14 to 12 after you really get cranking. The music is calming… yet so rhythmic it’s almost hypnotic. I really got into the training session and therefore I think I had an even better workout. As we head into winter and limited riding hours… I think I might find myself listening to more of the likes of Ulrich Schnauss while cranking out the miles in the “man cave”! Enjoy… and let me know what you think of the track… especially if you give it a go on the trainer.

IAN– So glad to hear it! I look forward to hearing about your first trainer ride back with a little Ulrich beat.
Thanks for the music suggestion. Like you, I’m always on the lookout for new training music. I can’t quite see how this one is going to be stimulating on the windtrainer as it sounds very soothing but I like it enough to give it a try. For a good climbing beat I highly recommend an Australian band called The Presets. Their album Apocalypse is my favourite for cranking it out in the big chainring. Perfect for 60 rpm cadence.
GROOVER– Thank you for your suggestion as well. I’m off to look them up and give it a listen. Cheers!
My own preference is for German techno, with Belgian blondes singing repetitive phonetic English. Check out Sylver, or Lasgo.
SPROCKETBOY– German Techno? That explains Sprocket. If you remember the old Saturday Night Live skit that will be funny. If not… oh well. I’ll give your preference a listen as well. Thanks!

Give me a few more weeks my friend and I’ll be cranking up the hills on the trainer with Urlich. Thanks for the new music suggestion, I’ll make sure he’s on for the first ride.
