Spinning Away In My New Man Cave…

I now have my things (anything cycling related) set up in my new “man cave”… a.k.a. the garage.  I guess it’s the room my wife always said I would have in the house.  I think I’ll finally break down and hang my autographed George Hincapie poster and Lance Armstrong Poster.  I’ve hesitated doing this because I always thought I would have a place (literally) in the house.  Anyway, my cycling things are now in my new “man cave”.  That includes an old TV/VCR… my trainer and platform.
I have a new weekday schedule in which I’m having to ride early morning before work/sunrise.
But I’m finding (shh! don’t tell my wife) it’s kind of a nice getaway even if I’m not out on the road.  This morning was pretty sweet. I popped in my Chris Carmichael Train Right Climbing video… fired up the fast twitch muscles… sweated out last night’s ice cream and successfully cleared the “cache” in my head.
I soon realized I was digging my new “man cave”.  In fact, I was already looking forward to my next escape.  Then… the door opened.  My five year old’s face was glowing like he found a hundred new Hot Wheels, a free pass to watch as many cartoons as he wants and an endless supply of candy.  Why? I don’t know.  I guess he thought it was just cool… daddy riding his bike in the garage with other cyclists on TV.  He immediately says… “Daddy come get me when your done… I want you to help me put my bike on there so I can ride after you”.  I love that my son wants to do what I like to do… I love that my son wants to hop on a trainer and spin out some sweat… I love that my son wants to be like his daddy… but my ”man cave” getaway was already changing.  I knew for sure… when my wife asked if I could also put her bike on the trainer before I headed out for work.  My “man cave” is quickly becoming the “family cave” in the first day.  You know what though?  It’s OK!  I love that my family wants to pedal.  It means they can relate and appreciate what I get out of it.  I’ll still have my time and my “man cave” and until then I get to appreciate great moments like these.  My son’s bike locks into the trainer but the tire just isn’t big enough to reach the tension wheel.  So, he spins away!

We promise not to give away the location of your secret cave. :) Love, Wife & Sons

JAN– Thanks love! I’m happy to have you all visit anytime! :)

That’s a sweet deal. Not only do you have a ‘cave’ but your family respects it and enjoys it.
I would put the poster in the bedroom but then again, that may be one of the reasons I’m single.:)

That’s awesome!! I want a man cave too. LOL!!

If your Man Cave has a beer fridge, I will come over and set up my trainer too.

If you like the Carmichael DVDs, try the ones from Global Ride (www.globalride.net) – they’re the best virtual cycling DVDs out there. They’ve got everything you’d want out of a virtual ride DVD. Perfect for man caves.

Yes, I believe we should all have our own little “man cave”.

SPROCKETBOY– Point noted… it has a freezer but no fridge. This is something I can work on! I must have a wish list, right?

JEFF(Global Ride)– Cool thanks for the info. Can you send me one as a test sample? I’ll give it a test pedal, and write up a review here on my blog. Thanks, Donald

Where is “Jan Cave”?

CAROLE– The entire House. :)

donald, dominic has his “man space” in the basement. he has an entire bike shop set up down there. and now he’s rearranged the livingroom to fit those damn rollers in there againest the wall so we can ride in there. maybe you should ask your wife, since the whole family is using the trainer, could you just set the trainer up in the family room? lol.

Nice use of space, Donald! Don’t forget to zone your “like with like” items to keep things nicely organized too. In addition, add a fan for the “summer breeze” effect in the warmer months.

I’m enjoying your blog!
