Shell Shocked!

A few posts back, I mentioned “Fresh Organic Eggs” being sold on one of the routes I ride often.  Well, I had mentioned it would be a good challenge for me to sometime try to make it home with a dozen… UNCRACKED!

It just so happens that a new cycling blogger buddy in England, “Easy Tom” rides past a farm that offers up eggs for sale as well.  OK… the ones there are ducks eggs but my research staff Googled this and it seems they’re about the same size as chicken eggs.  Anyway, Tom read my post and offered up a friendly challenge.  Since we’ve talked a few times, the title of this challenge has evolved into the…  “Across The Pond, Chicken vs. Duck Egg, Cyclosportive Challenge.”This past

Sunday… we both set off in our respective countries to fetch our eggs.
(Make sure you check out Tom’s post as well)

Here’s how I decided to tell my story of being… ”Shell Shocked!”

We enjoyed your movie Donald (I too forced my wife to show interest in our antics) - an emotional rollercoaster. My heart sank at the sight of the empty fridge - fowl luck indeed! I tried to make a movie on my ride too but I couldn’t work out how to set my new camera to movie mode, doh! Well good luck if you have another crack at it - I think your son will insist you don’t give up on this challenge. Better cluck next time and I look forward to your next ‘egg-sploitation movie’. (As an aside - I’ve just remembered that Crank Brothers make pedals known as Egg-Beaters.) Cheerio…

DJ, I want in on the next go at it. Maybe Friday?

EasyTom– Like I said on your blog… great fun and creativity. Just wait until other cyclists see what cycling greats YOU got to ride with. Excellent ride… excellent accomplishment. You had me laughing!
So, what’s our next challenge?

BRIAN– I’d love to have you accompany me… but remember no egg-sistance because I would be dis-fowl-ified from the challenge. You can get some eggs too I guess… or you could help document. Either way I would be egg-static to have you along.

Bummer. Great video. I still say the way to do it is in the front of your shirt.

Did you find the Shiner Holiday Cheer yet?

CHRIS– Thanks! I will try again soon… and possibly implement your egg transportation proposal by nestling them in the front of my jersey. I plan on looking for the Shiner Holiday Cheer this weekend! I’ll let you know.

Great vid! Bummer luck, though! Oh well, maybe neggs time!

Uncadan8– Thanks… yeah bummer that they were sold out. But like you said neggs time… and hopefully I won’t have a fowl outcome.

Great video!

egg-ceptional video Donald!

IAN & Laurel– Thanks for watching! I’m glad you enjoyed it. I hope it’s just as good when I finally get some eggs.

Your son was clearly the star of the video ….. and I love his maillot pois hat!

The other guy in the video? a Yoke-l :)

WILL– I knew you were a good read. He’s a real ham… I’m a Yoke! Yes, that hat should look really familiar … Sprocketboy brought it back from your corner of the world and the Tour de Enfer. My son loves to be KOM. :)

Nice Video DJ! Loved the cheering section! Better Yolk next time!….Classic cheese…Love it! That would be interesting…to ride home with a dozen uncracked eggs! I think you can do it.

K.STEP– Thanks! I do have the best cheering section. It ain’t easy being cheeeeezzy! I’ll let you know how it goes on my next attempt.

“So what’s our next challenge?” - now you’ve got me thinking because I enjoyed the egg-based distraction… Maybe that’s a good idea! Perhaps we could do Biannual “Across the Pond Winter Training Cylcohumorous Challenges”? Let’s see what ideas we can hatch for another one in the next few weeks…

EASYTOM– Sounds great! I’m game. I happen to be making a second attempt at the eggs today. I hear they’ve been restocked. I must follow through with this challenge! Why…? Because although my mind was scrambled from the shock of an empty fridge… I must push forward. I certainly don’t hink it’ll be over-easy… today is very cold and windy… but I’m determined to beat the odds!

V cute video Donald! Troop def puts it over the cuteness top :-)

That’s such a great video, Donald. But now Alberto wants a camera for Christmas! :-) What camera are you using?

PAGE– Thanks! Trust me… your little one will be hamming for the camera before you know it!

GROOVER– Thanks so much! I actually just used my Canon SX100IS digital camera. Here’s a link to it on Amazon- http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000V1VG4W/interactiveda8707-20

It has a video mode and with a 1 or 2G card there’s plenty of room for multiple short clips. I then used an editing program at my station. But you could use anything these days…iMovie if you have an Apple computer is very simple.

LOL Donald!

We have a bunch of egg ranches in the back county, some even sport “Fresh Eggs for sale” shacks. I’ve never stopped though.
