Another View From My Egg-cellent Ride…

In my last post, I showed you a sign I pass on one of my routes.  It reads… ‘Fresh Organic Eggs.’  A friend was asking me where were the eggs?  What do you mean in a house/hut?  Well, I realized you can see it (the little house) in this other picture I took.
It’s the county line… I’m standing in Wake and the other side is Chatham.  Look there in the background… that’s where you get the eggs.  See the little yellow house under the American flag…  that’s it.  Does your life feel complete now?
You’re welcome!
Anyway, as I said in my last post, on one of my future rides I will buy a dozen and attempt to make it home with no cracks.

Thank you for this updated photo, it helps set the scene so much better. Now I know what you’re actually talking about.

GINNY– So glad I could help out. Omelettes for everyone!

You could always break the eggs immediately into your bidon, then you’d be all ready for scrambled eggs on toast when you got home. Admittedly it would remove the challenge… I see a place like that on one of my routes that sells duck eggs. Maybe I should try and get a dozen duck eggs home and we could make comparison of the results!? A kind of Duck vs Chicken cyclosportive.

Okay, here’s that 6 degrees of separation thing, but one of my cubicle-mates at work, her brother is in the band, “Chatham County Line”. I really wasn’t hip to bluegrass music before, but its actually some good stuff.

ROB– Cool… Yes, I’ve heard them play. I like it as well. I also like the Carolina Chocolate Drops and Old Habits. Locals… great talent and great music.

EasyTOM– I like the scrambling idea! And as the temps get colder here I don’t have to worry about spoilage.
I ACCEPT… I’m ready for the “Across the Big Pond Egg Challenge” … the “Duck versus Chicken Cyclosportive,” as you say. Let’s shell out the details… seriously!

Being Donald it should be you transporting the Duck eggs! I will, conditions permitting, attempt the transportation of a dozen duck eggs back home this Sunday. It’s very roughly about 8miles from the duck egg position to my flat. I think we should be allowed to keep our egg transport techniques a secret but I think panniers/bags/baskets etc be banned. I would like to allow the, very appropriate, use of ‘Duck Tape’. Duckumentation is mandatory. (My only concern is that the farmhouse that sells the eggs doesn’t look like its supply is extremely reliable.) So, I accept the “Across the Pond, Chicken vs Duck Egg, Cyclosportive Challenge”. We could communicate when we have both managed to complete the task and post our results simultaneously!

True… my wife’s family does refer to me (lovingly of course) as “Duck.” Anyway, I’m in and ready for the “Across the Pond, Chicken vs. Duck Egg, Cyclosportive Challenge!” I love the long title that has evolved.
I do think we should document the transport, the conditions, etc… and the end result.
I’ll email you with more info. Maybe our fellow bloggers could judge on our efforts, creativity and end result?

[...] few posts back, I mentioned “Fresh Organic Eggs” being sold on one of the routes I ride often.  Well, I had mentioned it would be a good [...]
