Breaking Away In Detail…
I’m sure most of you have seen the great cycling movie “Breaking Away” … Here’s the trailer:
So, a couple of days ago, I was searching for the soundtrack and after clicking a couple of links on Google… I found an 8 year old blog post that detailed all things “Breaking Away.” I not only found some of the music I was trying to identify… I found some great “Breaking Away” movie trivia. So, a big thank you to Diablo Scott’s Bike Blog .
One of my favorite tracks is played in the scene when Dave is riding his bike through town on his way home carrying his trophy. He is singing “Libiamo ne’lieti calici” (also known as “the drinking song” or “Brindisi”) from the opera “La Traviata” by Giuseppe Verdi. Here is the “Three Tenors” version… ENJOY:

WILL– True… ‘The Flying Scotsman’ is a great one… if you haven’t watched ‘Breaking Away’ … check it out and let me know what you think.
GROOVER– Yes, check it out. Let me know what you think. Hopefully you’ll enjoy it… and the rest of the soundtrack.
TOM– Hope you find a copy. You too will have to let me know what you think about it after you watch.
JEFF– True… so I guess it’s our duty as cyclists and enjoying all things cycling that we make sure others know.
GROOVER– I was trying to leave you a comment with a link but it’s not working for some reason. Anyway, the movie came out in 1979. You can go on the IMDB website for more details. Again, I hope you find it and enjoy it.
I first saw this movie late one night when I couldn’t sleep. I’ve now watched it at least 20 times. It is a classic that every cyclist needs to watch at least once. The soundtrack is amazing in the fact that the movie was a hit and most tracks were not considered mainstream.
IAN– It’s funny… I’ve seen it a lot too along with other cycling movies. But now that I’m writing about it I realize I don’t own any DVD’s of cycling/movies. I have just either watched it on TV or rented. Well… there’s my next post.
Hi Donald, I’ve seen the Flying Scotsman, dude was on to aero concepts long before anybody else. I picked up “What It Takes” a couple years ago. Not exactly cycling, but the movie follows some of the pros on the build-up to the Ironman World Championships.
Can you believe the weather we had the last 2 days? I was supposed to be resting, but I couldn’t resist those temps and went out for a couple of easy 20 milers.
ROB– It’s been great… just got back from an awesome
Saturday afternoon ride. Hope to go tomorrow as well.

Hey, you’re welcome, thanks for the link. My website counter recorded some hits from your page. Actually the post isn’t 8 years old; I use year 2000 dates for my pages that aren’t really blog related so I can link to them. Anyway, glad you liked it and how come you didn’t leave ME a comment?
Hi Diablo Scott– Well that tricked me… I thought 8 years… WOW. Anyway… I think I got so caught up in the fact that I was feasting on all that great “Breaking Away” information I didn’t realize I failed to leave a comment. I do apologize for that and I will certainly check back in with Diablos Scott’s Bike Blog. Thanks Again!
