The Road Ahead…

roadview.JPGAfter a two week break, I was back on the bike this weekend.  I know you’ve been there… you just don’t have the drive to pedal.  It was a good break I needed… not only physically but mentally.

My last big ride was the 106 mile mountain ride, Bridge to Bridge… and I was tired.  I went out yesterday with a clear head and no heart rate monitor. I just wanted to ride on the familiarity of my own fitness and body signs.

Sure, I lost a little of that fitness after two weeks off but I still felt pretty good.  I think it was just the experience of being back in the saddle… both familiar and comforting.  I got in 25 miles at a 19.1 mph average… I felt it on the hills but it was a good hurt.  I missed it! Now, I just have to figure out what my ride schedule or routine should be in the off season.

I like the new site … old address over?

I find it very helpful to have easy, relaxing rides …. or chatty rides if friends are joining.

Too much pushing can sap the fun.

regards

WILL– Yeah… I have my blog through work so the platform/template has changed. It will be going through some tweaking stages as well as improvements. I’ll be posting a quick message about that today. It was just redirected right before you visited. So, I believe you were the first to find it. I still have to get used to it… the look , etc.

Sometimes we need a break. It sounds like you are still riding very strong. Fall is on it’s way. I have to get some nice rides in before that white stuff starts to fall again. I hope that the family is doing well.

JEFF- Thanks… yes the family is great. Hope the same for you. We’re spoiled right now… sunny and temps in the upper 70’s into the low 80’s this weekend and next week. I forgot about the snow stuff you have to deal with so much. Enjoy your training now!

It’s good to give your body a break. You were doing long rides every weekend, it seemed. Plus you looked way skinny.

I can only say “Take your rest seriously”. It’s so important. I read somewhere that it can take years to recover from overtraining. Scary. I like the new layout, too. Just took me a moment to figure out how to post a comment.

I know exactly where you are coming from.

You wouldn’t have lost much after two weeks off. Just a little of the top end which should come back fast.

JUDI– It has felt good. I’m actually heading to the mountains this weekend without the bike. I’m just going to enjoy the weekend. Maybe a hike or something but no pedaling. Skinny… way skinny… really? You know… you’ve got some good muscle tone. I have no upper body muscle weight… maybe I should get some weight training in for next season.

GROOVER– Years of recovery… that is scary! Yes… the blog is work in progress… sorry. For now you have to click on the post to comment but hopefully there will soon be a comment tab like before.

CHRIS– Glad to hear from you… hope all is well. Yeah… didn’t feel too sluggish after two weeks off. Glad to know it shouldn’t take too much to stay at a decent level for the off season.
